My name is Izs Christoffels (1998) (they/ them) I was born and raised in Arnhem, in a small forest. That forest is where I found my love for nature, which still is very apparent in my work. My practice comes forth out of autobiographical happenings. I keep busy with tough family situations and the struggles to find a home, not just a house with a roof - an actual home. That is where the kitchen in my work comes from. The kitchen is the belly and the foundation of the house, so to say. If the foundation is out of balance, the whole house collapses. My graduation work “The fragmented kitchen” is made out of pieces that I remember from all the kitchens I have lived in. Within my work, I try to use the curiosity of a kid. To use material in ways they are usually not used. This way, I try to invite people to have the same curiosity and the same awe that young kids have.
